Washington was one play away from salting away its second win of the season, one kneel-down short of knocking off the Detroit Lions, 19-16, and its starting quarterback was nowhere to be found.

With two seconds left in the fourth quarter, right after Lions signal-caller Jeff Driskel threw his third and final interception of the day, Redskins quarterback Dwayne Haskins was supposed to be out on the field with his teammates, leading them into victory formation. Instead, he was taking a selfie with a fan, celebrating Washington’s victory one play early.

Redskins interim coach Bill Callahan, unable to locate Haskins, called on backup quarterback Case Keenum to kneel down on the Redskins’ final play. The skipper did not take the bizarre end to his second win as Redskins coach lightly.

“No, I don’t laugh at it,” Callahan said, per ESPN. “I’m happy we won. We’ll address that. I’m just pleased we won the game. I just have to find out.”

In his first victory as a starter, Haskins completed just 13 of 29 pass attempts for 156 yards and threw a pick. But he and the Redskins defense did enough to secure the win over the injury-riddled Lions, and the QB celebrated his defense’s final takeaway as if it was his first win ever.

“I was so hype, I broke a water bottle,” Haskins told reporters. “I look up and we’re in victory. I thought the game was over with already, but I’ll get it next time.”

That’s if there is a next time this season. The 2-9 Redskins finish against four playoff contenders (Panthers, Packers, Eagles, Cowboys) and the rival Giants.

Haskins might’ve missed his opportunity, opting instead to celebrate with what Redskins fans remained at FedEx Field on Sunday afternoon. It’s a moment that those fans won’t forget, but one Haskins will probably want to.

When Jameis Winston is your quarterback, things are bound to get a little weird sometimes.

Against the Falcons in Week 12, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers somehow topped that notion with a move that resulted in a reward that far outweighed the risk.

From the Atlanta 1-yard line with 44 seconds remaining the first half, defensive tackle Vita Vea came into the game as an eligible receiver at fullback. The ensuing play didn’t result in a Vea block or routine dumpoff to a receiver; no, this was a designed play-action fake with the 347-pound lineman as the intended target.

And he caught it with all the grace in the world, becoming the heaviest player in NFL history to score a touchdown in the process.

“Got to commend Jameis. He threw me a dime. It was just spot-on,” Vea said, via Pewter Report. “I didn’t have to jump, reach out or nothing; it just came straight to me. All I had to do was just catch it.”

For as easy as Vea made his historic grab sound, what he accomplished has only ever been done by two players listed over 340 pounds, according to Pro Football Reference: Hall of Famer Jonathan Ogden (1996, 2003) and previous record holder Dontari Poe. The current Panthers DT was 346 pounds when he scored as a member of the Chiefs in 2015; Vea’s achievement came four years and two days after Poe’s.

“Still feels kind of surreal to me,” Vea said, per Buccaneers.com’s Carmen Vitali. “It’s just like I’m still kind of taking the moment in. I’m excited to look at my phone and see what my family and loved ones have to say. Just pretty excited.”

Vea also finished with two tackles, two passes defensed and a sack in the 35-22 victory.

Fake LeBron James Jersey

LOS ANGELES — A collision with Patrick Beverley Jersey For Sale in the first quarter of the Lakers’ 111-106 loss Wednesday night to the Clippers caused LeBron James Jersey For Sale to aggravate a nagging groin injury and could cause the Lakers star to Discount Jerseys For Sale miss some game time moving forward.

“I felt healthy going into the game,” James said after finishing with 23 points on 9-for-24 shooting, with 10 assists and 9 rebounds. “I got kneed in the groin taking a charge from Pat Bev, and it kind of set me right back to where I was five days ago.”

Last Christmas, James suffered a torn left groin against the Golden State Warriors Jerseys For Sale — the first major injury of his career — and it derailed both his and his team’s season.

The injury that James is currently dealing with is on the right side of his groin and is far less dire than the injury he suffered to the left side of his groin last season, but it could worsen with overuse.

James told ESPN the contact with Beverley caused the groin area to “flare up.” James’ play clearly suffered from there. Ten of his 15 misses were on 3-pointers — the most 3s he has ever missed in a game in his 17-year career — and he attempted just four foul shots, as his drives to the lane were limited.

James was coming off both the groin discomfort and a thoracic muscle strain — a pull in the rib cage area — which caused him to miss a game for the first time season. The Lakers lost that game 128-104 at home to the Denver Nuggets Jerseys For Sale on Sunday.

Even though the Lakers are now riding a season-worst, four-game losing streak, several members of the organization already have approached James about the urgency to sit out and rehab his groin injury until he feels fully recovered, sources told ESPN.

The Lakers have a back-to-back set coming up — at the Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday, followed by the Dallas Mavericks at home on Sunday. James, who has repeatedly rejected the notion of load management already this season, is listed as day-to-day by the team.

“To be honest, I haven’t even thought about Portland just yet,” said James, who will turn 35 next week. “I’m always around the clock with my body, getting my treatment. If I’m feeling great, I’ll be in the lineup. If I’m feeling well, I’ll be in the lineup.

“We’ll see what happens.”

The Lakers are anticipating needing James for six more months of basketball should they make a deep postseason run, and their priority is the big picture.

“It’s still another game,” forward Kyle Kuzma said after the Christmas loss. “We’re in December. We got a couple more months of basketball.”

Not that the Lakers were completely comfortable with the defeat, of course.

After leading by 12 points at the half and by as many as 15 in the third quarter, there was a sense that they had blown a golden opportunity to even up the season series with their Staples Center cohabitants 1-1.

“We gave that one away,” Anthony Davis Jersey For Sale said after putting up 24 points, 6 rebounds and 2 blocks. “We had the game, we were in control of the entire game; even though we let them get back in it, we were still leading by, I think, seven with six minutes to go. That’s a game you’ve got to close out, so like I said, we gave that one away.”

Indeed, James’ 22-foot step-back jumper with 6 minutes, 39 seconds remaining in the game put the Lakers up by seven, and the Clippers responded with a 13-2 run in the following four minutes to take control.

“We just beat ourselves, plain and simple,” Kuzma said. “Obviously, credit to Clippers for making shots down the stretch. But we just beat ourselves.”

The Lakers had possession with 19.2 seconds left, trailing by 3 with a chance to tie it, but James lost the ball out of bounds after Beverley poked at the ball during James’ shooting motion with 3.6 seconds on the clock.

The ball was called out on Beverley. But after an officials review, the call was overturned, as the referees determined that the ball was last touched by James. The play was registered as a missed shot by James, rather than a turnover.

“I was surprised by the overturn,” James said. “I didn’t feel like the ball went off my hand. But that’s the way it went.”

While James preached about the Lakers’ need for the team to “just be better” as the season progresses, there was still confidence coming from another corner of their locker room.

“We’re still the best team,” center Dwight Howard Jersey For Sale said. “After tonight, let it go. It’s just another game. Of course, we all wanted it. I think everybody in L.A. that’s a Lakers fan wanted to see us win tonight. But like I told you guys a couple days ago, we want to be the best team in June. We want to be the team that’s holding up the trophy, and I think when we do that, nobody will remember the game that we lost on Christmas.”

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported earlier this week that Roethlisberger had elbow surgery after his injury to reattach three tendons. The quarterback hasn’t been cleared to throw yet, but he is tracking to be back for the 2020 season.

Although he hasn’t been able to play, Roethlisberger has been around the team throughout his rehab and has been on the sideline for almost all of the games. He also has helped rookie undrafted quarterback Devlin “Duck” Hodges, who will start this week’s regular-season finale in Baltimore after Mason Rudolph went on IR with a season-ending sternoclavicular joint shoulder injury suffered against the New York Jets Jerseys For Sale.

“Obviously, Ben, playing as long as he has, I’m sure he’s been in some of these must-win games,” Hodges said Wednesday. “I believe they were in a must-win game last year. Fake Los Angeles Rams Jerseys Sale

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — The Los Angeles Rams Jerseys For Sale have ruled cornerback Jalen Ramsey Jersey For Sale out of Sunday’s season finale against the Arizona Cardinals Jerseys For Sale because of a knee injury, Rams coach Sean McVay said Tuesday.

Ramsey is dealing with a strain to the Jerseys For Sale Outlet lateral collateral ligament in his left knee, according to McVay.

Ramsey suffered the injury last Saturday in a 34-31 loss to the San Francisco 49ers Jerseys For Sale, which eliminated the Rams (8-7) from playoff contention.

He left the field in the second quarter, but returned minutes later and did not miss a snap. Ramsey finished with two pass deflections and intercepted a pass for the first time since the Rams acquired him in an October trade.

“I wanted to play,” Ramsey said after the game. “Nothing was going to stop me from playing.”

The Rams completed a trade for Ramsey going into Week 7, sending a 2020 and 2021 first-round pick and a 2021 fourth-round pick to the Jacksonville Jaguars Jerseys For Sale in exchange for the All-Pro cornerback.

“He’s made a big impact,” McVay said Tuesday. “I like his daily demeanor too, just with the way that he practices, he’s a smart, conscientious football player, asking questions, he’s very coachable…

“He’s had a presence since he’s been playing and he enables us to do some different things flexibility-wise, but it’s been good having him.”

Ramsey was voted to a third-consecutive Pro Bowl this season, despite playing in only 12 games between the AFC and NFC conferences and posting modest numbers. Ramsey has five pass deflections, two forced fumbles and an interception in 11 starts.

A fourth-year pro, Ramsey is expected to command a record-breaking contract in the near future with only one season remaining on his rookie deal.

Best Seattle Seahawks Running back Marshawn Lynch Jersey Super Bowl

Running back Marshawn Lynch Jersey For Sale and the Seattle Seahawks Jerseys For Sale agreed to a deal on Monday, Lynch’s agent announced.

Lynch’s contract is for this season only — Week 17 against the San Francisco 49ers Jerseys For Sale and the postseason, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The Seahawks also signed Robert Turbin Jersey For Sale, who spent his first three Authentic Jerseys For Sale NFL seasons with the Seahawks. Lynch and Turbin fill backfield spots that opened Sunday with Chris Carson Jersey For Sale and C.J. Prosise Jersey For Sale sustaining season-ending injuries.

Lynch, who was in Seattle on Monday taking a physical, spent parts of six seasons with the Seahawks from 2010 to 2015. The five-time Pro Bowler came out of a one-year retirement to play for his hometown team, the Oakland Raiders Jerseys For Sale, in 2017 and 2018.

Lynch, 33, didn’t file retirement paperwork with the league.

“He’s been working really hard,” Carroll told 710 ESPN Seattle earlier on Monday. “He’s really excited about the chance to do something helping out, and I think it’s freakin’ great if he could get out there and tote the ball for us. The circumstances rolled just at this time, and he could have four or five games left in him. Maybe that’s what we need.”

Despite Lynch’s time away from the NFL, the Seahawks (11-4) were desperate for help at running back as they prepare for their showdown Sunday night against the 49ers (12-3) in a game that will determine the NFC West champion.

Carroll confirmed Monday that Carson sustained a season-ending hip fracture in the Seahawk’s loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. Seattle also is without backups Prosise (arm) and Rashaad Penny (knee), both of whom are out for the rest of the season.

Lynch rushed for 376 yards and three touchdowns in six games with the Raiders last season. He eclipsed 1,200 yards rushing in four consecutive seasons with the Seahawks from 2011 to 2014 and led the NFL in rushing touchdowns in 2013 and 2014.

“He’s had plenty of time to be working and get ready in case something came up, and I’m anxious to see him when we get him here,” Carroll said Monday. “There’s a lot of history here that’s great history. There was nobody that ever amplified the kind of mentality and toughness that we like to play with, so if we get a chance to get the Beast back on the field, we’ll see how that works out.”

The 30-year-old Turbin was a fourth-round pick by the Seahawks in 2012, part of the famed draft class that also included Russell Wilson Jersey For Sale and Bobby Wagner Jersey For Sale. He rushed for 928 yards on 231 attempts (4.00 average) in 48 games with Seattle while serving as Lynch’s primary backup. That included a career-high 310 yards in 2014.

Turbin spent three seasons with the Indianapolis Colts Jerseys For Sale from 2016 to 2018, averaging 3.1 yards per carry over 23 games. He last played in Week 6 of the 2018 season.

Turbin and Wilson were roommates on road trips and became close friends during the running back’s three seasons in Seattle. He was part of Wilson’s wedding party when the quarterback married singer Ciara in 2016.

Turbin posted to Instagram a picture from inside the Seahawks’ locker room Monday evening, indicating he had returned to the team.

Also Monday, Carroll said he expects Jadeveon Clowney Jersey For Sale to play against the 49ers after missing the Cardinals game with a core-muscle injury he’s been dealing with since Week 10. That was the first meeting against San Francisco and Clowney’s best game of the season.

Nike Authentic Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff Jersey

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — A season after playing in Super Bowl LIII, the Los Angeles Rams Jerseys For Sale will not appear in the postseason.

On Saturday, the Rams were eliminated from the playoffs after losing on a last-second field goal to the San Francisco 49ers Jerseys For Sale, 34-31 at Levi’s Stadium.

The Rams dropped to 8-7 and are now only the second team since 2009 to lose in the Super Bowl then miss the playoffs the following season. The Carolina Panthers Jerseys For Sale, who lost to the Denver Broncos Jerseys For Sale in Super Bowl 50, accomplished the same unfortunate feat in the 2015 and 2016 seasons.

After winning back-to-back division titles, this is the first time in Sean McVay’s three seasons as coach that the Rams have failed to earn a playoff berth.

Before the season, Rams coaches and players expressed confidence that they would move past their 13-3 loss to the New England Patriots Jerseys For Sale in last February’s Super Bowl, and that they would not fall victim to what is commonly referred to as the “Super Bowl hangover.”

“I trust and have full confidence that there’s not going to be any — people talk about a ‘Super Bowl hangover’ or anything like that,” McVay said before the season opener against the Panthers. “This team is focused on this year, producing one day at a time.”

“No, I think we’re good,” quarterback Jared Goff Jersey For Sale responded when asked during training camp in July if there was any concern about a Super Bowl hangover. “I wouldn’t know because I’ve never been to one before this year, but I think we will be just fine.”

The Rams experienced an uneven season, full of inconsistencies on offense and defense, that resulted in their unsatisfactory record.

The Rams won three straight to open the season before they suffered a defensive meltdown in a Week 4 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Jerseys For Sale, which led to their first three-game losing streak since McVay became coach in 2017.

They bounced back with back-to-back victories over the Atlanta Falcons Jerseys For Sale and Cincinnati Bengals Jerseys For Sale, but returned from their bye week with a lackluster loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

After the Baltimore Ravens Jerseys For Sale blew the Rams out 45-6 on Monday Night Football in Week 12, the season appeared doomed. However, the Rams rebounded with sound wins over the Arizona Cardinals Jerseys For Sale and Seattle Seahawks Jerseys For Sale before an embarrassing loss in Week 15 to the Dallas Cowboys Jerseys For Sale.

“It’s insane to see what he’s able to do, but he’s LeBron James, he’s different. He’s an alien. So you expect it from him, but yeah, it’s crazy.”

The Bucks and Lakers are sitting atop the Eastern and Western conferences, respectively, with matching 24-4 records as they prepare to clash for the first of two times this season.

Antetokounmpo is averaging 31.7 points, 12.8 rebounds and 5.3 assists as the Bucks look to bounce back from Monday’s loss to Dallas. Prior to that, Milwaukee ran off 18 consecutive wins — good for second most in franchise history.

Milwaukee is 23-1 following a loss in the past two seasons and 3-0 this year.

James leads the league in assists (10.6) while averaging 25.9 points and 7.4 rebounds. James’ player efficiency rating (PER) of 26.8 is also on pace to be the second highest of anyone in an age-35 season or later (Karl Malone had 27.1 in 1999-2000), per ESPN Stats & Information research.

“What LeBron James has done in our league is phenomenal,” Bucks coach Mike Budenholzer said. “He’s just a very, very special player, so anytime you get to play against him — and now Anthony Davis Jersey For Sale is very similar and they’ve got great fits, great players around them. So I think the thing we often talk about when you play a really good team is how you get tested and how you learn more about yourself.

“I think that’s kind of the way I look at it, and that usually means you’re playing somebody good, and I’m excited about that opportunity.”

Best New Orleans Pelicans guard Jrue Holiday Jersey

NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans Pelicans Jerseys For Sale guard Jrue Holiday Jersey For Sale has seen his fair share of losing streaks.

So when he was asked on Sunday afternoon following New Orleans’ 130-119 loss to the Orlando Magic Jerseys For Sale — setting a new record for franchise futility with 12 consecutive defeats — Holiday remembered back to some of those losses from before.

Wholesale China Jerseys

“I’ve been a part of losing streaks before,” Holiday said. “I’ve been on the other side of it where coming out of it, it feels great. I just think to be able to stay positive and push through it. But I’ve also been a part of it where we’ve been on a losing streak and it’s been a negative. That’s even worse than what it is now. Just have to stay positive.”

Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry didn’t even make it to the end of Sunday’s game.

With 1:46 left in the third quarter, Josh Hart was given a technical foul after staring down a referee on his way back up the court after he thought he was fouled on a layup. Gentry protested the call and picked up one of his own, and after Magic point guard D.J. Augustin shot the technical free throws, Gentry picked up his second technical and was tossed.

“We just have to play better,” Gentry said. “We gotta play better. The frustration boiled over for me tonight. I have to do a better job of that also.”

Gentry admitted it was a bit of frustration boiling over from the entire losing streak that ended up playing into his ejection.

The Pelicans had lost 11 games in a row twice in franchise history before this streak: Nov. 23-Dec. 14, 2004, when the team was still the New Orleans Hornets, and then again Dec.5-22, 2012, in the franchise’s first year as the Pelicans.

A common thread during this current streak has been the team’s defense. In the 12-game losing streak, the Pelicans, who entered Sunday 29th in the league in defensive rating and scoring defense, are giving up an average 121.4 points and losing by an average of nearly 12 points a game.

It was the sixth time in the past 12 games that the team had given up at least 127 points, and the fourth time the opposing team has scored at least 130 points.

When Gentry was asked if he was concerned about his job after a 6-20 start and a 12-game losing streak that is the longest of his head-coaching career, he said he wasn’t going to worry about something he didn’t “have control over.”

“You’d have to ask that question to the people who control that,” Gentry said. “I just know I’m going to come to work every day and do everything I can to get this turned around. That’s what I do know.”

The Pelicans held a six-point lead after the first quarter but were trailing by a point a halftime. Things didn’t get better for the home team in the third quarter, as the Magic pushed the lead to 15 before the final frame.

In the second and third quarters, Orlando outscored the Pelicans 75-54, as New Orleans couldn’t carry the first-quarter momentum any further. The Pelicans allowed 41 points in the fourth quarter, which is a league-high eighth time they’ve done so this season.

It’s a problem that has plagued the team throughout the year and something they’ll have to correct to win games, according to Holiday.

“Play even harder. Play desperate for 48 minutes,” Holiday said when asked how to turn things around. “I feel like we do it a lot of the time, and then when they make they run or swing and punch us, that kind of gets is. Just play hard for 48 minutes and try and come out with a victory.”

Pelicans forward Brandon Ingram said the team has to stay together to come up with wins. He doesn’t feel like the team hasn’t stayed together yet, but he knows it will help in the long run.

“I don’t think anybody has wavered,” Ingram said. “I think we just have to continue to push and just figure out ways to execute better and win basketball games.”

Holiday, who had a game-high 29 points, said it’s hard on the team to continue to lose but that he also knows how hard it is to win in the NBA. He continued to preach the message of positivity as a means to break the streak.

“From a personal standpoint, I feel like we’re all competitors and losing isn’t in our nature,” Holiday said. “We’re going to keep pushing and try to figure out a way to win, and as soon as we find a way to win, then try to replicate the results. Being positive is the biggest part.”

Best Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott Jersey

The NFL officiating department stepped in Sunday to reverse the team set for the second-half kickoff in Sunday’s game between the Los Angeles Rams Jerseys For Sale and Dallas Cowboys Jerseys For Sale, an unusual move that corrected a mistake during the pregame coin toss.

After the Cowboys won the toss, quarterback Dak Prescott Jersey For Sale first told referee Walt Anderson that “we want to kick it,” but then followed up with: “We defer to the second half.”

Anderson replied, “You’re going to kick,” meaning that the Cowboys had used their choice to kick off rather than to defer. The Cowboys kicked off to start the game and were set to kick off again to open the second half. At halftime, however, Anderson informed both teams that the NFL office in New York City had heard Prescott’s request to “defer” and that it should be honored.

According to the NFL, the league office was authorized to step in under Rule 15, Section 3, Article 9 of its rule book. It states: “The replay official and designated members of the officiating department may consult with on-field officials, or conduct a replay review, of game administration issues, including: (a) penalty enforcement; (b) the proper down; (c) spot of a foul; and (d) the game clock.”

It was not immediately clear how that definition includes the coin toss.

The Cowboys would go on to win in a rout, 44-21.

Pittsburgh Penguins Tristan Jarry Jersey

PITTSBURGH — Tristan Jarry spoiled Phil Kessel’s return to Pittsburgh, turning aside all 33 shots to post his second consecutive shutout as the Penguins edged the Arizona Coyotes 2-0 Friday night.

Phil Kessel Jersey For Sale helped Pittsburgh to back-to-back Stanley Cup titles in 2016 and 2017 before being traded to the Arizona Coyotes Jerseys For Sale in exchange for Alex Galchenyuk last summer. He received a rousing ovation during the first period and played 21 inspired minutes but couldn’t solve Tristan Jarry Jersey For Sale.

Wholesale Hockey Jerseys

Neither could the rest of the Coyotes. Jarry won for the fifth time in his last six starts and is making a serious case to supplant Matt Murray as Pittsburgh’s top goaltender. Jarry’s best stop came on a point-blank save on Clayton Keller late in the third period with the Pittsburgh Penguins Jerseys For Sale on the penalty kill trying to protect a one-goal lead. Keller was in perfect position just outside the right post and had an open net to shoot at before Jarry’s glove got just enough to send the puck sailing over the crossbar.

Evgeni Malkin broke a scoreless tie 7:13 into the third period to put the Penguins in front. Brandon Tanev chipped in an empty netter with two seconds remaining as the Penguins won their fifth straight meeting with the Coyotes. Antti Raanta finished with 24 saves but couldn’t quite match Jarry, who stole the show during Kessel’s highly anticipated return.

Kessel had 110 goals and 193 assists in four highly productive seasons with the Penguins. His lethal shot and underrated passing played a vital role in Pittsburgh’s resurgence, and his rumpled persona off the ice made the sometimes mercurial Kessel a fan favorite.

The marriage, however, ended in June when the Penguins sent him to Arizona following a decidedly blah 2018-19 in which Kessel’s often inattentive defense drew the ire of coach Mike Sullivan. The move reunited Kessel with former Penguins assistant Rich Tocchet, who developed a reputation as a “Phil Whisperer” for the bond the two developed before Tocchet left to take the head coaching job with the Coyotes.

Kessel’s arrival sent a message that Arizona was serious about ending a seven-year playoff drought. The Coyotes are off to their best start in nearly 30 years and Kessel appears to be regaining his scoring touch. He found the net twice in a win over Philadelphia on Thursday and was all over the ice while playing in his 803rd consecutive game just 24 hours later, perhaps energized by a long standing ovation during a video tribute the Penguins put together to mark his return.

Jarry, making his sixth start in Pittsburgh’s last seven games over a struggling Murray, kept Kessel at bay. Raanta might have been even better. The Penguins’ best chance came during a nearly two-minute two-man advantage in the second period. They came up empty when Raanta somehow got his paddle on a rebound by Rust from just outside the crease.

Raanta, however, wasn’t quite so lucky in the third period. The Penguins won a draw in the Arizona zone, and Jake Guentzel fired off a snapshot that deflected off a skate to the end boards, where it then ricocheted off Raanta’s right skate right to Malkin. Malkin steered it between Raanta’s legs for his seventh of the season.

Sources: New York Yankees Jerseys For Sale make signing Cole top priority

What’s next for the teams that lose the Gerrit Cole sweepstakes?

One blockbuster move for all 30 MLB teams
The Yankees have made signing Cole their clear offseason priority and have ownership-level approval to offer him a record-setting deal, sources familiar with their plans told ESPN’s Jeff Passan on Thursday.

Cole and Strasburg are the top pitchers on the free-agent market. The Yankees would like to add an ace to a rotation that already includes Luis Severino, Masahiro Tanaka, James Paxton and J.A. Happ.

Along with Cashman, assistant GM Mike Fishman, manager Aaron Boone, new Yankees pitching coach Matt Blake and former Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte made the trip to speak with both pitchers, who are represented by Scott Boras.

The Yankees’ fondness for the 29-year-old Cole, whose fantastic 2019 season with the Houston Astros set him up to smash David Price’s record $217 million contract for a pitcher, was only reinforced during the meeting, sources told ESPN.

New York and the Los Angeles Angels, a team similarly smitten with Cole and in even greater need of pitching, are preparing for a bidding war that executives expect will reach well beyond $250 million, according to sources. The Los Angeles Dodgers’ interest in Cole is acute as well, though they are also considering bids for Strasburg and third baseman Anthony Rendon, sources told ESPN.

Cashman offered little about possibly signing either pitcher, declining to discuss how much the Yankees might spend.

“I think it was an important part of the process for them,” Cashman said. “It sounds like they have met with many teams, and obviously I can’t predict the future or the timing of their futures; only really they control that.”

Cole was 20-5 with an American League-best 2.50 ERA and a big league-high 326 strikeouts this year for the AL champion Astros. He was originally drafted by the Yankees with the 28th overall pick in 2008, but he declined to sign a contract and opted to attend UCLA.

Strasburg was the MVP of the World Series for the Washington Nationals and was the first overall pick in the 2009 draft.

Cashman will return to California for the baseball’s winter meetings, which begin Monday. First, he’ll attend Sunday’s Heights and Lights, where he will dress as an elf and again descend the Landmark Building.

“I’ll be flying back out after this event and in the meantime staying engaged,” said Cashman, who declined to say if another meeting with either pitcher was planned.

“I’m open to do clearly whatever, as always, is important for the Yankees. If there are certain steps that need to be taken, or conversations on the phone, like any club we are fully prepared to do what’s necessary.”
